The Chinese pesticide industry has called for greater awareness and stronger enforcement of new pesticide regulations. Some 40 experts discussed the revised “anti-toxic regulations for storage, transportation, marketing and use of pesticides” (National Standard GB 12475-2006), at a meeting in Beijing. The regulations were implemented last year, according to the government information service, the China Pesticide Information Network. Industry representatives stressed the need for more legislation to support the new pesticide regulations, as well as increased measures for rule enforcement. The need to improve the general awareness of the regulations among the public was also emphasised. The national standards of the People’s Republic of China are issued by the Standardization Administration of China, the Chinese national committee of the International Organization for Standardization. The pesticide regulations were first issued in September 1990, and revised in June 2006. The meeting was chaired by the vice-president of the pesticide certification department of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, Ye Jiming.
