Umeå-based Agtech innovator Cropcision has successfully closed a seed funding round, backed by Northern Light Capital (NLC) and Partnerinvest Norr. The company is scaling up its capacity to deliver plastic-free, controlled-release fertilizers that align with upcoming EU regulations and meet the growing global demand for sustainable and affordable solutions.

"Cropcision welcomes the investment from Northern Light Capital and Partnerinvest Norr with an aligned vision for growth. This step allows us to hire key personnel and to expand our operations in agriculture, horticulture, and forestry. We are intensely proud and confident in the technology developed in collaboration with Associate Professor and co-founder, Michael Holmboe, from Umeå University, as the foundation of our value proposition″, says Jonathan Love, CEO and co-founder of Cropcision.

Strategic investors fuel Cropcision’s expansion

NLC and Partnerinvest Norr see strong potential in Cropcision’s technology.

″We’ve followed Cropcision closely and believe in its business model and the positive sustainability impact it brings to the fertilizer industry. We’re also pleased to invest alongside Partnerinvest Norr, a hands-on and experienced partner. Together, we look forward to continued collaboration with Jonathan and the Cropcision team,″ says Gustav Paringer, Investment Partner at NLC and the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Cropcision.

Sustainable and affordable — ready for EU’s new regulations

Cropcision's breakthrough technology eliminates plastics from controlled-release fertilizers, offering a sustainable, affordable, and scalable alternative.

The timing is critical: in 2028, out of concern that the persistent accumulation of microplastics in soil poses an unacceptable risk to animal and human health, an EU-wide ban on non-biodegradable polymers in fertilizers will take effect, increasing demand for plastic-free solutions across European agriculture.

″From the outset, we aimed to solve a big problem with the most simple and robust solution possible, recognizing the reality that meaningful and positive environmental impact requires scale and the ability to offer cost-effective products to farmers and foresters. In this sector, there is no such thing as sustainability without affordability," says Jonathan Love.

Field trials with forest industry leaders

Last year, Cropcision launched Silvivo, a specialty product for forest seedling establishment. Commercial field trials with forest industry leaders in Sweden, together with proof of concept in Eucalyptus, the most widely planted hardwood globally, poise Cropcision for international expansion.

Given current geopolitical drivers of high and uncertain fertilizer prices, there has never been a better time to offer farmers, foresters, and greenhouse growers a way to improve efficiency and productivity while meeting environmental objectives, says Love.

Early investment in Cropcision came from Umeå Universitet Holding AB, which, as part of Northern Light Capital, also participates in this round.
