ICL has exclusively announced to AgroPages the launch of Sulfurball, a sulfur-based fertilizer with specialty additives, described by the manufacturer as ″revolutionary.″ According to the global Israeli-origin company and a leader in specialty minerals, this technology arrives on the market to ″redefine standards of agricultural efficiency and sustainability,″ noted the company.
According to ICL, Sulfurball presents a unique spherical format, unprecedented in Brazil and Latin America. In addition, Sulfurball brings ″significant operational benefits compared to conventional pelletized fertilizers, offering greater distribution efficiency and reduced operational costs.″
Sulfurball is produced from the combination of elemental sulfur and additives developed by ICL, using an ″innovative″ production process. According to the company, this special fertilizer provides better availability and uptake of sulfur in the soil, meeting the needs of crops, such as soybeans and corn, and maximizing results in the field.
″We were pioneers in launching the first technological generation of bentonite-enriched pelletized sulfur fertilizer in 2007, and now we are once again innovating as the first to produce it in spherical shape,″ said André Alfonsi, Soil Fertilizers Product Manager at ICL.
Sulfurball will be manufactured exclusively at ICL’s facility in Jacareí, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, to supply both the local and all Latin American markets, reinforcing its leadership position in this segment. To make this innovation possible, the company invested more than BRL 50 million in developing its production technology.
Officials note that the facility’s production capacity will be increased by 50%, ensuring availability to meet market demands as early as the 2025 season. Sulfurball began to be produced and marketed in May under the ICL brand, with the first deliveries scheduled for July.
Sulfurball consolidates ICL as a benchmark in agricultural specialties and innovation in the fertilizer sector and reaffirms the company’s commitment to offering solutions that drive productivity and sustainability in agribusiness. ″Our goal is to anticipate the needs of producers, delivering a fertilizer that combines advanced technology, superior performance, and real operational gains,″ noted Alfonsi.
