Technology upgrade and service update: Pilarquim safeguarding Colombian potato cultivation

Potato late blight, caused by Phytophthora infestans, remains the most devastating disease in global potato production, as well as one of the most serious diseases causing economic losses to potato crops. 

Colombia has approximately 120,000 hectares of potato cultivation. In these potato-growing regions, the higher altitude along with cool and humid climatic conditions favor the occurrence of late blight, making the disease more severe in Colombia than in other Andean countries.

To tackle the challenge, Pilarquim has been continually making technological innovations and product upgrades. Previously, in the Colombian market, Pilarquim launched the PILARXANIL product for control of potato late blight. PILARXANIL is composed of two active ingredients, Dimethomorph and Cymoxanil, which combine the strong permeability and systemicity of Cymoxanil with the curative and preventive action of Dimethomorph, providing a new and synergistic solution for prevention and control of potato late blight.

PILARXANIL has a dual mechanism of action—preventive and curative—with special effectiveness in controlling downy mildew and late blight, having been widely recognized by Colombian farmers.

Supported by product innovations, Pilarquim has combined the PILARXANIL product with PILARNANO’s new technology and conducted a series of application-oriented research and trials in many Latin American countries, yielding fruitful periodic results. The nanoscale formulation process has significantly improved the product adhesion and coverage on leaf surfaces, while enhancing the rain fastness, such that the control efficacy is increased by 20-30% at the same dosage. 

As Colombian growers Ricardo and Andrés said: ″We’re going to try PILARXANIL NANO — it works way better than the products we used before, and we have great confidence in it.″

This technology upgrade is not only an overall enhancement of its control efficiency, but also a representation of Pilarquim’s strong commitment and positive response, via technological innovations, to the global initiative for green and sustainable agricultural development.
