  • The pilot program seeks to support producers in implementing regenerative agriculture practices to transform degraded areas into productive land.

  • The program includes long-term financing tools.

  • This first phase will involve producers in the Chaco and the Eastern region.

  • This is the first country within the new LATAM region—defined this year by the company—to incorporate this program, through which more than 250,000 hectares of productive land have already been recovered in Brazil.

Syngenta, a leader in technology and innovation in agriculture, has presented the pilot program of its REVERTE® program in Paraguay. The program aims to support producers in implementing regenerative agriculture practices and provide access to long-term financing to transform degraded areas into productive land.

The program seeks to demonstrate the economic viability of land recovery and promote the efficient use of inputs, contributing to the preservation of native vegetation and the sustainability of the system.

In Paraguay, REVERTE® has Banco Itaú Paraguay S.A. as its financial partner, through Itaú Campo, which will provide producers who adhere to and comply with the program's conditions with term loans and preferential rates. The program also includes validation of the implementation criteria and agronomic monitoring by the international civil society organization Solidaridad, which promotes the development of inclusive and sustainable value chains.

In this first phase, REVERTE® will be launched in Paraguay with a selection of producers, which will then be scaled to more hectares and farmers. This year, the program will work with producers in the Chaco and Eastern regions who meet the necessary conditions to participate in the pilot: having degraded soils, meeting the selection criteria, and access to environmental monitoring of the regeneration progress.

In Brazil, where it was begun in 2021, the program has already reached more than 250,000 hectares.

The program was recently presented at the first "Regenerating Agriculture" Forum, which brought together producers, distributors, and authorities in Asunción to learn of the opportunities Paraguay presents in regenerative agriculture, carbon, and its impact on climate change mitigation.

"We are proud that Paraguay is the first country in Syngenta's new LATAM region to implement REVERTE®, a sustainable solution to the challenges facing productive soils, helping to recover them and improve yields in a challenging climate environment," said Mariale Álvarez, Director of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs LATAM at Syngenta. ″We seek to continue supporting producers on their journey to produce food safely and efficiently, while protecting the soil and achieving sustainable economic benefits,″ he added.

We believe that credit is not just a financial tool, but a resource that drives transformation,″ stated Sebastián Sierra, head of Itaú Campo. ″The program's arrival in Paraguay marks an important step in expanding sustainable solutions for agriculture in the region. By supporting the productive conversion of already open areas, we promote agricultural practices with low carbon emissions and greater climate resilience,″ added Pedro Fernandes, Director of Agribusiness at Itaú BBA.

One year after the launch of its renewed Sustainability Priorities, Syngenta is taking another step in the region to promote the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices, thus contributing to improving productivity, soil health, and biodiversity, while generating sustainable and profitable systems for producers.
