The Bayer Brazil team revealed to AgroPages that their fourth generation of soybean biotechnology, known as HT4, is expected to hit the Brazilian market in 2028. However, they state that Bayer's new generation of soybeans will arrive in Brazil under a new brand, "tailored to the specific needs of Brazilian tropical agriculture."
The Bayer team in the United States announced this week the launch of the HT4 soybeans under the commercial brand Vyconic. Bayer introduced the brand during the Commodity Classic agricultural fair held in Denver, Colorado, with the commercial launch scheduled for 2027.
"This innovation is set to enhance weed management for American farmers, allowing the application of different molecules beyond glyphosate and dicamba, such as glufosinate ammonium, mesotrione, and 2,4-D," states Bayer in Brazil.
This technology is expected to be offered alongside the new generation of Intacta (SIP3), which will feature more proteins to control a broader spectrum of caterpillars. The likely formulation of the new technology will include Bt Cry1Ac; Cry1a.105 and Cry2AB2; and Cry1A.2 and Cry1B.2, in a technological package called SIP3HT4.
"Vyconic soybeans will offer farmers an unparalleled level of flexibility and control options in their weed management practices. Bayer knows that no two fields are alike, and that's why it’s important to provide farmers with products like Vyconic soybeans that empower them to create custom weed management plans that fit their specific needs, which could lead to increased effectiveness, better outcomes, and, ultimately, higher yield potential," says Kacy Perry, North America soybean business lead, Crop Science division of Bayer.
Brian Naber, president of Crop Science North America and Australia/New Zealand Region, points out that "The introduction of Vyconic soybeans is a testament to Bayer’s unwavering dedication to innovation in agriculture. We understand the challenges farmers face with weed control, and this technology underscores Bayer's commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions that help to meet industry challenges and the evolving needs of farmers in the U.S. and worldwide."
