The first insecticide to control all stages of development (eggs, nymphs and adults) of whitefly was launched by Ihara in Brazil.

The product called Privilege (Acetamiprid + Pyriproxyfen) has a triple mode of action: contact, systemic and translaminar, which is recommended for crops, such as soybeans, kidney beans, cotton, and tomato.

Ihara explained that in the case of systemic action, the product achieves to go through the plant, reaching the insect at the moment that it sucks the plant. With its translaminar characteristic, it is capable of passing through plants, reaching places that the spraying does not reach directly, nullifying the development of the eggs and nymphs in the inferior part of the leave.

The incidence of the whitefly has grown rapidly in the last year, including in regions where it was not a problem. The insect disrupts the vegetative and reproductive development of grains and fruits because it feeds off the plants' sap or indirectly affects the plant through the formation of a black powder (Capnodium elaeophilum) or through the transmission of viruses.

“Crops with a high incidence of whitefly register high indices of productivity loss and significant losses for the producer. The product yet offers a prolonged effect because it breaks the development cycle of the plague during all of its stages,” affirmed the manager of Insecticides Products of Ihara, Luís Fernando Andrade.

According to the company, Privilege was developed through an “innovative formulation that exempts the use of adjuvants,” products commonly used to improve coverage and absorption by leaves. Andrade explained that the insecticide can be applied during any crop stage, including through an aerial route, easing the farmer’s crop management process.
