Nufarm announced the launch in the Brazilian market of the biological insecticide Armigen designed to control the caterpillar Helicoverpa armigera. The product, manufactured by AgByTech of Australia and distributed in Brazil exclusively by Nufarm, combats all of the species of the gene Helicoverpa and Heliothis.

The company recommends Armigen as a tool for Integrated Pest Management because of its specific function and high effectiveness on these caterpillars. According to Nufarm, the product is also highly selective, preserving the natural enemies of Helicovera armigera and having reduced impact to the environment.

It is explained that the insecticide acts via ingestion, which can result in the elimination taking between three to eight days. The application should be done when small caterpillars are detected (until 7 millimeters), and should not be used when Helicoverpa armigera would have reached 13 millimeters of length.

The registration of Armigen insecticide releases its use in Brazil for all crops in which the biological target is found. The unique exception is the state of Paraná, where the use is restricted temporarily.

"Helicoverpa armigera has caused big losses for the farmer in the last year. Using the tool of Integrated Pest Management like monitoring, the application of chemical and biological insecticides have extreme importance in order to succeed. And with the arrival of Armigen, we are offering to the market an innovative product, strengthening even more our portfolio for the control of Helicoverpa and other caterpillars,” emphasizes Murilo Borges, manager of insecticides and fungicides of Nufarm.
