Use of biotech crops increase in Ohio, USqrcode

Compared to a year ago, use of biotech varieties of corn planted by Ohio farmers is up.

According to the Ohio field office of the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS), 85 % of corn acres in Ohio were biotech varieties, up from 76 percent a year ago.

Soybean plantings showed a slight increase, with 89% of soybean acres in Ohio using biotech varieties.

Nationally, biotechnology varieties were used on 90 % of the corn acres, up two points from 2012.

Biotech varieties of soybeans accounted for 93 % of the acreage nationwide, unchanged from a year ago.
