AgroPages-Europe to vote on new pesticide rules-Agricultural news

Parliament’s Environment Committee will vote on amendments that could remove up to 85 percent of currently approved pesticides – threatening Europe’s agricultural productive capacity and pushing up food prices in the process.

The FG Backing British Growers campaign was launched in July in response to draconian amendments seeking to tighten rules on the European Commission’s original pesticides proposal.

Over the past four months the campaign has gathered expert opinion, Government advice and farmer reaction from across industry in an attempt to raise MEPs’ awareness on how their actions could harm European agriculture.

This week, FG sent each MEP on the Environment Committee a summary sheet and comprehensive dossier detailing the potential imp-acts of their amendments and suggesting which key amendments needed to be voted down.

The Environment Committee report will be voted on by all MEPs in December.
