Cameroon to distribute pesticides![qrcode]()

According to the Southwest Provincial Delegation of Agriculture and Rural Development, Cameroon, a consignment of over a thousand cartons of pesticides will soon be on its way to farmers.
Delegate Lawrence Forwang Nyakangah said that insecticides - worth over US $326,000 - would be distributed to cocoa and coffee farmers to boost production.
Nyakangah explained that a workable distribution strategy had to be set up to ensure that the chemicals get to the farmers safely."Many fraudulent activities take place before the pesticides reaches the farmers,” said Nyakangah. “So, we need to revamp the distribution structures, especially SOWEFCU (Southwest Farmers Co-operative Union) and make sure that this Ministerial support doesn't end up in some black markets."
Another meeting is to be held with SOWEFCU on September 5. A monitoring committee would also be set up to assist SOWEFCU to make fungicide available to farmers.
Nyakangah said he expects coffee and cocoa production to double or even triple by 2011, since the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is now committed to providing chemicals and fertilizers at free or subsidized rates.
