The active ingredient of orthosulfamuron has recently got approval in China. The Chinese Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals of Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) granted a temporary registration approval to the product of Yancheng Nanfang Chemical, expiring for 1 year, only for exporting.

Orthosulfamuron belongs to the family of sulfonylurea herbicides. It is an inhibitor of acetolactate syntase (ALS), therefore according to HRAC classification it is included in the group B. It is a systemic herbicide for the control of the main weeds in rice in post emergence. It is usually marketed as a Water Dispersible Granule (WG).

Orthosulfamuron was introduced by Italian agrochemical company Isagro in 2007 in USA and Colombia for rice and sugarcane, and then got approval in Italy and Bangladesh in 2008, in Brazil in 2011. Orthosulfamuron is marked as Kelion, Strada and Pivot for sale in US under the distribution agreement between Isagro and RiceCo. Isem, the joint venture of Isagro and Chemtura, markets the herbicide in Brazil.
