UK revokes uses under new EU MRL regulationqrcode

The UK Pesticides Safety Directorate (PSD) has identified a number of UK authorised pesticide uses that must be revoked. This follows the coming into force of the new EU maximum residue limits (MRLs) regime under Regulation 396/2005 on September 1st. The PSD had been involved in an extensive exercise, comparing existing UK MRLs with those needed, to identify the uses at risk. It started with the “first tranche” of MRLs published under Regulation 149/2008 and has since identified on-label uses and specific off-label authorisations (SOLA) that must be cancelled.

The PSD has also reviewed the “second tranche” of MRLs, which received a favourable vote in the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (Residues) in March, but are currently awaiting formal publication. It has identified uses (both on-label and SOLA) that must be revoked.

The revocation of uses will take effect from September 1st and a further period of six months will be allowed for the amendment of product labels to remove references to the on-label uses.
