German industry welcomes new EU MRL rules

The German agrochemical industry association, the IVA, has welcomed the “harmonisation” that the new EU rules on pesticide maximum residue limits (MRLs) would bring about.The new EU pesticide MRL Regulation (396/2005) comes into effect from September 1st. "It will facilitate trade within the EU. For the consumer, it creates more transparency and gives an equally high level of safety in all member states," says IVA chief executive Volker Koch-Achelpöhler. The association emphasises that the new MRLs will not require any change to the existing application procedures for plant protection products.
