Syngenta is to invest more than £100 million ($199.5 million) in its UK manufacturing and research and development facilities. Over £75 million ($149.6 million) will be invested at its existing agrochemical production facilities in Grangemouth, Falkirk and Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Most of this additional investment will be made at Grangemouth, where the facility will be expanded over the next three years to accommodate a “significant increase” in production of the fungicide, azoxystrobin. This investment is part of the company’s plans for a $600 million capacity expansion over a three-year period in 2008-10. Syngenta will invest a further £35 million ($69.8 million) at its R&D centre at Jealott’s Hill, Berkshire, which focuses on the development of new herbicides, new formulations and product safety.
