Brazilian researchers have rejected claims of diminishing efficacy of the fungicide, tebuconazole, against Asian soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi). They presented evidence to the Brazilian anti-rust consortium that “categorically proved” there is no resistance from the disease to tebuconazole. National research associations had claimed that triazole fungicides, and tebuconazole in particular, had become less effective against the disease over the last two seasons. “As with all diseases, the existence of some variability in the susceptibility to any fungicide is run of the mill,” the Aenda adds. It welcomes the findings as the active ingredient is the “only available generic” fungicide for use against Asian soybean rust.
