Several Brazilian crops are suffering from the spread of the fungus, Sclerotiniaspp, the Brazilian generic agrochemical industry association, the Aenda says. Brazilian soybean, cotton, sunflower and bean farmers have reported severe incidences of the disease. The Aenda cites a study from the Brazilian seed association, the Abrasem, showing that the advance of the fungus is occurring alongside an increase in [the use of] illegal seeds. Such seed does “very often not have preventive treatments”. It adds that no resistant varieties have yet been developed.
