SPP acquires herbicide distributor Townsend Chemical

On July 15, 2011, Specialty Professional Products, a portfolio company of Calvert Street Capital Partners, completed the acquisition of Townsend Chemical LLC, an herbicide distributor that provides vegetation management products and services for end-user customers, applicators and government agencies. Townsend, founded in 1991 and headquartered in Indiana, distributes herbicide products throughout the Midwest, West Virginia, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Texas. SPP, through its subsidiaries ADAPCO and Red River Specialties, is a leading distributor of pesticide and herbicide products in the vector control, forestry, range & pasture, aquatic and vegetative management markets.

Townsend will merge with and assume the Red River Specialties name. "Our objective in combining these companies is to grow the industry leadership position each has earned, though a continued investment in people and products," said Steve Burt, president and CEO, of SPP. "We will maintain integrity as the cornerstone of our business, as well as an ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional service and fostering our solid customer and valued partner relationships."
