Ethephon is on rising demand in China

Since its introduction in China 50 years ago, the plant growth regulator ethephon has enjoyed more and more popularities among Chinese agrochemical manufactures due to rising demand of domestic and overseas market in recent years. Even its capacity in China has grown by almost one third to 20,000 tons per year from the year 2008 and the output has reached to 10,000 ton per year in 2011, supply shortages of the product exists in China during the high seasons of September and October since 70 to 80 percent of the output were sold in international market such as EU, US, Southeast Asia and Australia.

At present there are 14 ai manufacturers and over 70 formulation producers gained approvals by Chinese authority. Jiangsu Anpon, one of the Chinese top agrochemical manufacturers, has recently complete its 10,000 annual ethephon ai production line and 5,000 tons formulating facilities, which strengthened its leading role in the field.

Though been introduced on over 50 crops with its versatilities , the regulator is more often used on cotton, rice, jujube, banana, mango, tomato, cucumber and other fruit crops. What’s more remarkable is that Chinese consumers have realized its synergetic effects with other agrochemicals such as daminozide, choline hydrochloride, brassinolide, DA-6(Diethyl aminoethyl hexanoate), paclobutrazot and uniconazole, and its combination with the fungicide Prochloraz has become the tendency by the industry. Of all the 77 approvals of the ethephon-based products, 6 of them were the mixed products and all of the mixtures were approved after 2009.
