California grape growers realize that a well-developed pest management product does more than just control pests—it also fits well into an overall crop management plan. With its proven broad spectrum power and 24-hour restricted entry interval (REI), more growers are looking to Danitol® Insecticide (active ingredient: fenpropathrin) as an effective and economical pre-harvest management tool that also fits well into their operations.

Madera-based PCA Milan Nelson said Danitol plays a critical role in his pre-harvest strategy.

"As we get closer to harvest, we’re even more aware of how we’ll control pests like leafhoppers while keeping worker and harvester safety in mind, too,” Nelson said.

Nelson said he must incorporate products at this critical time that will “get the job done” but cause the least disruption to day-to-day worker operations. With its short, 24-hour REI, Danitol allows Nelson to quickly and effectively attack a broad spectrum of pests—such as leafhopper, leaffolder, leafroller and glassy-winged sharpshooter—and still keep his workforce moving on late-season activities.

"Danitol fits well within the pre-harvest crop protection programs as a tool for both crop protection and worker safety—and that is a very important consideration in this day and age,” Nelson said.

Additionally, unlike other synthetic pyrethroids, Danitol combines the effectiveness of an insecticide and a miticide and is proven not to flare mites. “Some products can encourage mite populations to increase,” Nelson said. “I’ve never experienced any mite flares when using Danitol.”

Valent Grape Crop Specialist Lyndon Inouye said growers appreciate the value the broad spectrum control Danitol brings their operation.

"Danitol is an economical choice to quickly control some of the most challenging pests facing grape growers,” Inouye said. “Research shows Danitol controls a wide variety of pests, providing an excellent return on a grower’s investment.”

Danitol has a 21-day pre-harvest interval (PHI) in grapes.
