Valent Professional Products announced that Adorn® Fungicide (active ingredient: fluopicolide) has been registered by the Environmental Protection Agency for control of downy mildew, Phytophthora, Pythium and other diseases in New York for greenhouse and nursery ornamental production.

Available for use as a spray or drench, Adorn is a new chemistry with a novel mode of action that delivers excellent control of downy mildew, Phytophthora and Pythium. Plus, Adorn is an excellent addition to fungicide rotations and plays a key role in resistance management programs.

"Adorn is the only chemistry in its class, so there are no resistance issues and no cross-resistance issues,” said Dr. Jill Calabro, regional field development manager and plant pathologist for Valent Professional Products. “That provides a huge benefit for New York growers who find themselves in need of additional options in the fight against disease and in resistance management.”

Researchers working with Adorn are seeing that it performs well against some of the most important diseases facing growers today (including downy mildew, Phytophthora and Pythium).

Margery Daughtrey, senior extension associate in the Department of Plant Pathology and Plant Microbe Biology at Cornell University’s Long Island Horticultural Research & Extension Center, has performed studies using Adorn with favorable results.

"We found Adorn to be very effective at halting Phytophthora crown rot on Calibrachoa, and at reducing root rot and stunting caused by Pythium aphanidermatum on snapdragon,” Daughtrey said.
