Gowan Company, LLC has announced that Section 24(c) registrations are available for Permit herbicide (active ingredient: halosulfuron-methyl) for post emergent applications in dry beans. The special local need registrations are applicable to the states of Colorado, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Minnesota starting in the 2011 crop season.

Gowan still recommends Permit to be applied as a pre-emerge application as this will allow for broader spectrum broadleaf control and the crop to emerge without weed competition. However, now growers have more options if weather and weed challenges are affecting their weed control plans.

With this new post application label for Permit on dry beans, growers will now have more flexibility and options,” noted Gowan product manager Eric McEwen. “In addition to weather challenges affecting herbicide application timing, Permit has more activity on certain weeds either as a pre or post application. Common lambsquarter is only controlled prior to emergence, while sunflower control is better as a post application, so growers will now have more options for implementing their weed control strategies in dry beans.”
