UkrAgroConsult forecasts record sunflower planted area in the Black Sea countries

UkrAgroConsult believes that rising prices for sunseed and sunoil on the global market in the 2010/11 season, late spring, smaller winter crops acreage and their damage in spring, unclear situation with grain exports next season will provoke the increase of sunflower planted area in the majority of Black Sea countries in 2011.

According to the official estimate, sunflower acreage will approximate only 3.5 Ml ha in Ukraine in 2011. But UkrAgroConsult supposes that on the contrary Ukraine will expand sunflower planted area to 4.8 Ml ha. The detailed information can be found in the next Supply & Demand balances which will be published on April 29.

The same situation is expected in Russia. According to UkrAgroConsult, sunflower acreage in Russia will be at least 5-10% larger than official estimate. The estimates of 7.8 Ml ha are pronounced on the market.

According to the Agrarian Ministry of Moldova, sunflower will be sown on approximately 190 Th ha. UkrAgroConsult estimates the acreage at 250 Th ha.
