Valent U.S.A. Corporation (Valent U.S.A.) announced that Geoff Quick has joined the company as senior director of business development for its growing strategic licensing and acquisition activities.

In his new role, Quick will be a member of the Valent U.S.A. executive leadership team, supporting all business development needs and working closely with Jim Blome, Valent U.S.A. executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Quick will report directly to Jeff Johnson, vice president, business development for Sumitomo Chemical Company’s (Sumitomo) Region Americas—which, in addition to the Valent U.S.A. organization, includes affiliates Valent BioSciences Corporation (Valent BioSciences), Valent de Mexico, Valent Canada and Sumitomo Chemical Latin America.

According to Johnson, “Geoff’s addition to the team comes at a crucial time in the development of our Region Americas growth strategy. His extensive business development and global experience position us to continue ramping up our efforts throughout the Region and ultimately better meet the needs of our customers in this important geography.”

Originally from California, Quick earned a degree in agribusiness from Curtin University of Technology in Australia. A 22-year veteran of Australian-based Nufarm Limited, he served in various roles throughout the global Nufarm organization and led the establishment of its Southeast Asian business. Most recently, he held executive-level positions with Nufarm Americas in business development, marketing, product development, regulatory affairs and operations.

"I am excited about the opportunities in business development for Valent U.S.A., as well as the other operating companies within Region Americas,” Quick said. “Valent U.S.A. has a particularly strong value proposition to share in the marketplace.”

Strategic Hire for Strategic Growth

Blome said he believes Quick’s new role will be important to the continued growth of the Valent U.S.A. portfolio.

"Valent U.S.A. benefits from Sumitomo’s healthy pipeline of traditional synthetic chemistry, as well as our access to biorational innovations from the research, development and commercial activities of our global sister company, Valent BioSciences,” Blome said. “But we also are hungry to complement our portfolio with unique, third-party technologies that fit with our strategy and capabilities. Geoff’s significant experience in this area will be critical to helping us succeed in bringing even more new products to our customers.”

Blome added that Sumitomo is the only company in the world with a leading position in both traditional and biorational agricultural products.

Quick will be headquartered in the Valent U.S.A. offices in Walnut Creek, Calif.
