Cryptex, from Andermatt Biocontrol AG, is a baculovirus product based on Cryptophlebia leucotreta Granulovirus (CrleGV) which enables control of the false codling moth, Thaumatotibia leucotreta. The larvae of the false codling moth are extremely polyphagous. They are responsible for major damage to citrus, macadamia, avocado, pomegranates and other important crops in Southern Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and Israel.

Cryptex has been already successfully applied on various crops in South Africa and Israel and is now also available for growers in Kenya. Stephen Musyoka, General Manager at Madumbi Kenya: “Cryptex has been registered in Kenya for roses and we are expecting approval for capsicum and avocado in a few months’ time. False codling moth is considered a quarantine pest in Europe and is present throughout the year in all rose growing areas of Kenya as well as in the areas growing fresh produce. Therefore, the introduction of Cryptex provides producers with an effective biological solution that will help control the pest without any MRL risks.”
