Ihara launches new line of pre-emergent herbicides

Ihara has announced a new line of pre-emergent herbicides called the "Herbicides of the Future" that were developed using innovative technology. 

According to the manufacturer, these are products that stand out for the “long residual, high selectivity and control” of the main resistant weeds in Brazil.

“Weed competition is a growing problem in Brazil because for many years there have been no effective solutions for controlling weeds. These new products give us the certainty that we are contributing to the prosperity of agriculture, whether by the most effective protection of crops or by improving resistance management,” says André Nannetti, Ihara's general marketing manager.

On average, 15% of global grain productivity is lost by weed competition and resistant weeds. The cost to control this problem, which has been increasing year by year, is already R$4.2 billion (US$ 780 million) in soybean cultivation, and losses reach R$9 billion (US$ 1.67 billion).

As for the cultivation of sugarcane, the estimate is that the loss is 10%, which totals approximately 60 million tons in the country. The cane producer currently invests more than R$600 million (US$ 111 million) in sugarcane-plant alone and the costs to control losses reach 86.4% in productivity. 

Four new products were presented at once. First among these is the herbicide Kyojin which is formulated with the active ingredients Pyroxasulfone + Flumioxazin. It is supposed to combat resistant weeds, providing greater and better control of Eleusine indica, Conyza bonariensis, Digitaria horizontalis, among others, in soybeans and corn.

The second is Yamato (Pyroxasulfone) that is already registered in more than 10 countries and on the list of the main herbicides in the world. This product is meant to handle ryegrass, among others, in wheat, with application in pre-emergence.

Falcon herbicide (Pyroxasulfone + Flumioxazin), which is the third product, is a technology that offers a broad spectrum of weed control for broad and narrow leaves, ensuring selectivity and safety. In Brazil, registered for the crops of sugar cane, coffee, citrus, eucalyptus, pine and cassava.

Finally, there is Ritmo that has a mixture of Pyroxasulfone + Amicarbazone, which is exclusively developed for use in sugarcane. It has an innovative formulation, with fast absorption and easy for handling weeds with narrow and wide leaves.
