With an important slice of investment by soy producers in the harvest, oilseeds moved R$11.2 billion (US$2.1 billion) in the 2019-20 cycle, an increase of 7.5% compared to 2018-2019 (R$10.4 billion, US$1.9 billion).

The data is from the study titled BIP Soja Sementes, which has just been released by the consultancy Spark Inteligência Strategica. According to the survey, conducted with 3,500 producers, there was also a slight increase of 2.4% in the areas surveyed in the cultivated area: from 35.1 million hectares to 35.9 million/ha.

According to Spark, a relevant bit of data found in the BIP Soja Sementes was the expansion of the cultivation of Intacta RR2 PRO varieties, which have more added value when compared to RR seeds. The survey detected advances in Intacta technology in the South and Cerrado, consolidating almost 75% of the soybean areas, against 65% of the 2018-19 cycle. In dollar terms, the total seed market jumped 3%, from US$2.763 billion to $2.834 billion.

According to Spark's project coordinator, economist Rodrigo Lorenzon, BIP Sementes also found that 42% of the properties visited by the researchers had 100% of the area cultivated with the Intacta varieties. According to Lorenzon, the survey concluded that the main attributes sought by farmers in relation to seeds are related to productivity, adaptability to the region and characteristics of the reproductive cycle.

The region comprising Mato Grosso and Rondônia appears at the top among the main cultivated areas, with 28% of the total with 10.143 million hectares. Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, in second place, registered 18% with 6.441 million ha. Third was Paraná, accounting for 15%, with 5.503 million ha. The MAPITOBAPA pole (Maranhão-Piauí-Tocantins, Bahia and Pará) was the fourth most relevant with 4.777 million hectares (13%). Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and the SP/Minas Gerais axis close the relationship, adding 25%, or 9.053 million ha.
