On Tuesday morning, the first consolidation of a container with 24 tons of green peas destined for China was completed at the Vegetable Plant that Agricultores Federados Argentinos SCL (AFA) owns in the town of Rueda. The efforts to achieve this historic event in the country took more than 10 years, and involved the public and private sectors. The container is destined for the Xiamen port, with 3.5 million inhabitants, located in the Chinese province of Fujian.

To finalize this export, the legume was previously treated according to the protocols agreed on by the Chinese health authority. Lot tests were carried out in fields of the producers of the cooperative, and after the harvest, some lots were reserved in specific silos, betting that the market would be opened and thus have merchandise analyzed and approved by SENASA ready for dispatch.

This first container also symbolizes the result of the work of many people and organizations. It was done entirely from the province of Santa Fe, merchandise cultivated in Santa Fe land, consolidated in AFA Rueda facilities with customs in plant, with providers of land and sea freights of the Province, and from Terminal Puerto Rosario, giving real importance to the locals.

In 2019, the main destinations for the sale of peas from Argentina abroad were Brazil, Senegal and Italy. The opening of a market such as China has great advantages, such as expanding the range of options available today to place the product.

It is also a challenge in terms of productivity, since the volume demanded by China requires greater efforts to increase the total supply of legumes from Argentina, thus increasing competitiveness against other countries, such as Canada. .

The most important door is already open. Now, what remains is to continue with commercial and productive efforts throughout the process to ensure Argentina's permanence as a supplier to China, maintaining quantity and quality.
