After a meticulous selection process and an over three-year-long wait, SulGesso, a company that produces mineral fertilizers from Santa Catarina, Brazil, had one of its innovative projects chosen by the Financier of Studies and Projects and Innovation (Finep), to receive resources from the program, Innovates Mineral. The project chosen by Finep comprises research and development over an intelligent fertilizer, suitable for Brazilian soil, as well as a briquetting plant, which will produce the fertilizer.

The project will also be developed in partnership with the Federal University of Santa Catarina, which will receive resources from SulGesso and Finep to support the development of a new product and a new and modern industrial unit.

Focused on promoting science, technology and innovation in companies, universities and other public or private institutions, Finep promotes the incentive of projects for various sectors. In the case of SulGesso, it is the Development, Sustainability, Innovation Plan in the Mining and Mineral Transformation Sector - Inova Mineral.

The contract signed at the beginning of the year has an investment of approximately R$4 million, and is in the form of an economic subsidy, with non-refundable resources. The project is in its first stage of research and development and in order to advance to more defined stages, SulGesso and Finep must comply with the obligations in the contract.

For the president of SulGesso, Manoel Ferreira, this partnership with Finep is a recognition of more than 10 years of research and innovation that the company has undertaken along with its employees, in addition to endorsing its suitability, ethics and socio-environmental responsibility with the community, the environment and its collaborators, establishing its commitment to innovate in the agribusiness sector.

“After 44 years of undertaking and generating more than 2,400 direct jobs, we received this support for research, development, job and income generation for our city and region with great optimism. We thank Finep for the rigorous selection process and trusting our company, which will continue to do its part to ensure a more sustainable, developed and more humane society," said Ferreira.
