The Murcia-based company, Symborg, dedicated to the elaboration and commercialization of exclusive biofertilizers for the development of agricultural crops and intensive and sustainable production, has set a benchmark in just a decade, thanks to the Glomus Iranicum patent, a new species of fungus that the agricultural company has launched. It is currently being distributed in 30 countries. We spoke to Jesús Juárez, CEO of Symborg.

Your Symborg company is in the process of expansion, and shortly, it will open a new plant in Alhama de Murcia, Spain, to develop new lines of products for the agricultural sector. What is the reason for investing in this town?

We are opening a new plant in the Alhama industrial estate since the space adapts exactly to what we need to carry out our activity in optimal conditions, in addition to having all the features that the industry demands.

When will the work be completed? And will it be carried out in stages?

Yes, we will carry out the work in stages. In October 2020, we will finish the first phase, which includes carrying out the hydrolysis plant for proteins to make biostimulants. The second phase will be completed in late 2021 and will be the fermentation plant to produce biofertilizers.

It will have several areas. Could you explain to us what they are and the activity that will be carried out in each one of them?

We will have two plants: the hydrolysis plant will make proteins for biostimulants and the second plant will be for fermentation to produce biofertilizers.

The new plant will be built on land admeasuring 40,000 square meters located in the Alhama industrial park. What is the expected investment?

We have a planned investment of 28 million euros, including all phases.

What is the company's estimate in the consolidation of both direct and indirect jobs?

We hope to generate between 45 and 50 jobs.

Symborg needs employees with a high agricultural technical training based on R + D + I. What are the most demanded technical jobs by your company?

As you said, at Symborg, due to the nature of our business, we need professionals with high technical training such as engineers, agronomists and biologists.

What are the strategic sectors and the main lines of production and action to be developed from Symborg?

We always focus on the agricultural sector, since one of our main objectives is to help overcome the sustainability challenges that arise at the global level.

The company has nine subsidiaries. How will they benefit from this new plant?

The new plant means growth in our product catalog and an increase in turnover.

What are the areas that the company plans to promote in the future?

The areas that we will promote will be R&D to develop activities, including an advanced biotechnology laboratory, as well as a manufacturing plant for the production of biofertilizers, biopesticides and biostimulants.

Are some areas related to the environment?

All our areas and products are focused on caring for and protecting the environment. Our research and the products we develop are organic and are always aligned with global sustainability challenges. We follow our corporate vision at all times: to be global leaders in the bio-agro sector through innovative solutions to meet the needs of farmers.
