Rijk Zwaan has recently announced a new seedless pickling cucumber variety called Lennon RZ. The name Lennon RZ is synonymous with the pioneering musician of the 20th century. Following the critically acclaimed releases of both Bowie RZ and Rubinstein RZ, Lennon RZ has made a name for itself in a short amount of time thus far. Named after the Beatles' innovator and musical pioneer, Lennon RZ displays both unique and improved traits for the processing cucumber industry.

Strong, dependable performance

The release of Lennon RZ allows growers to experience the next level of Rijk Zwaan genetics with improved stability and harvest predictability. Lennon RZ’s seedless parthenocarpic trait allows freedom from pollinators, while providing a dependable, large yield potential with high quality, attractive fruit. The broad adaptability of Lennon RZ has scored well in many trials from Canada to Florida and has shown improved tolerance to adverse growing conditions. Improved skin texture and a predictable, large fruit set make this new variety an excellent choice for machine and hand harvest operations alike. Lennon RZ’s high quality, blocky fruit have excellent interiors and exceptional brining abilities. Just like the modern composer it has been named after, Lennon RZ is destined to become a timeless classic that benefits both processers and growers into the future.

New hire

Rijk Zwaan also announces the addition of Samuel McGowen to the North American Gherkin team. Based in North Carolina, Sam will primarily focus in the Southern regions of America.
