Cotton farmers looking to get their Deltapine brand varieties off to the best start possible in 2011 are urged to book their seed treated with Acceleron seed treatment products.

"Acceleron seed treatment products help get Deltapine varieties off to a fast start and can help set the stage for a successful finish by protecting seedlings from early-season disease and insect pressure and by promoting overall plant health,” said Tom Schaefer, Monsanto’s marketing lead for Acceleron seed treatment products. “These are important for maximizing yield potential in Deltapine Genuity Bollgard II with Roundup Ready Flex. For 2011, we strongly recommend farmers book their Deltapine seed treated with Acceleron seed treatment products.”

Being offered as additional protection in 2011 to the improved base fungicide already applied to Deltapine cottonseed, Acceleron cottonseed treatment products are exclusive to Deltapine and are available in two different product options.

Acceleron insecticide seed treatment products for cotton can provide insect protection and, through the use of a doubled rate of the fungicide pyraclostrobin, improved plant health through more rapid and increased emergence of seedlings under certain colder conditions. Additionally, Acceleron nematicide and insecticide seed treatment products for cotton offer the same benefits and can also provide protection from nematodes.

"It has done an outstanding job for us,” said Tim Jamerson, cotton farmer in Hornersville, Mo. “I am so confident in it that I have booked all of my cottonseed in 2011 treated with the Acceleron nematicide and insecticide seed treatment products.”

Jamerson has seen cottonseed treated with Acceleron cotton seed treatment products emerge better and grow into healthier plant stands than cottonseed treated with other branded seed treatments. To put Acceleron seed treatment products to a test in 2010, he and his Deltapine salesman planted cotton early in the spring with nighttime temperatures dipping into the 40-degree range and soil temperatures still less than optimal for planting cotton.

"The cottonseed treated with Acceleron cotton seed treatment products emerged and grew into perfect rows about the time cottonseed treated with Avicta Complete Cotton, planted the same day, had barely begun to emerge,” Jamerson said. “You could see a difference in the fields looking down the rows.”

In Hayti, Mo., cotton farmer Danny Stevens saw cottonseed treated with Acceleron seed treatment products outyield cottonseed treated with a competitor brand seed treatment in 2010.

"We had a plot planted half to cottonseed treated with Acceleron cotton seed treatment products and half treated with another brand of seed treatment. And I could tell a difference in the crops during the growing season,” he said. “After we defoliated the cotton, we could really tell a difference. And in the end, the cottonseed treated with Acceleron cotton seed treatment products out-yielded the other by almost 100 pounds per acre.
I’d like to see it on more acres and watch how it performs.”
