Syngenta Seedcare introduces Avicta Complete Beans, a combination of separately registered products, which contains the first seed treatment nematicide available for use on soybeans. Avicta 500 FS seed treatment nematicide is combined with CruiserMaxx Beans insecticide/fungicide seed treatment combination to provide triple protection against damaging nematodes, insects and diseases, helping increase plant stand, improve vigor and ensure each seedling reaches its full genetic yield potential.

"With Avicta Complete Beans, the interaction of a nematicide, an insecticide and fungicides delivers superior early-season pest protection and even better results,” said Dr. David Long, technical crop manager, Syngenta Seedcare. “We are excited that soybean growers now can rely on the proven performance of Avicta and experience convenient, consistent and reliable protection from day one.”

As a host crop, soybeans are susceptible to several of the same nematode species as cotton and corn. A recent shift in acreage away from cotton to other crops, including soybeans, throughout the Southern United States means that growers who have historically battled nematode damage in their cotton fields should expect to see yield loss from nematodes in their corn and soybean crops.

Because of their first-hand experience battling nematodes in cotton, Southern growers have an advantage over the rest of the country. They are aware that nematodes exist and have experienced the damage that often leads to yield and profit loss. Most of the nematodes present in cotton and corn fields, specifically root-knot nematode, also are threats to soybean acreage. With few rotational options and limited resistant soybean germplasm currently in existence, management of nematodes is necessary to achieve maximum yield potential.

"Root-knot nematodes continue to be problematic in areas that historically have been cotton-producing regions,” explained Dr. Terry Kirkpatrick, nematologist and professor at the University of Arkansas. “Besides sampling fields and crop rotation decisions, using a seed treatment nematicide may be beneficial, particularly in combination with a moderately resistant cultivar. The day the seed is planted is the last day that growers can do anything to control nematodes in that field that year.”

The nematicide component of Avicta Complete Beans, Avicta 500 FS, provides immediate protection against most major nematode species, specifically root-knot, reniform, stubby-root, sting, stunt, lance and soybean cyst nematodes. By offering effective nematode protection from the moment the seed is planted, Avicta helps promote stronger plant stand in soybean crops. This, in turn, establishes the foundation for better yield and return on investment potential.

The insecticide component of Avicta Complete Beans, the active ingredient in market-leading Cruiser® seed treatment insecticide, offers plants effective and consistent early-season insect protection to get crops off to a healthy, vigorous start. Avicta Complete Beans protects soybean plants from a variety of insects, including thrips, threecornered alfalfa hoppers, grape colaspis, leafhoppers, white grubs, aphids, bean leaf beetles, seedcorn maggots and wireworms.

Avicta Complete Beans also contains the active ingredients in the most powerful and widely used seed treatment fungicide brand on the market, ApronMaxx®. The proven disease protection of Avicta Complete Beans works to safeguard the plant from devastating diseases that can hinder emergence and inhibit growth. Avicta Complete Beans protects against the most harmful seed- and soil-borne disease pathogens in soybeans, leading to improved plant stands, better emergence and early-season vigor, and higher yield potential.

To purchase seed treated with Avicta Complete Beans, growers should contact their local seed company or Certified Avicta Complete Beans Treater.
