AgroPages exclusively interviewed Aedyl Lauar, research manager of Satis, a Brazilian crop nutrition company. Lauar highlighted the main problems in coffee crops at this time of year in Brazil. He also comments on how Fulland Solution enhances fungicide performance, and other solutions Satis offers to the Brazilian market.

What are the major late diseases that threaten coffee in this pre-harvest period?

This period before the harvest is time that requires a lot of attention from the farmer, so that he can harvest a better quality of the crop and also keep the crop well prepared for the next season. Among the factors that can cause failure in this period are late diseases, such as Rust, Cercospora, Aureolated Spot, Phoma, and Anthracnose. These diseases cause significant losses in current production and also extreme damage to plants, such as severe defoliation, branch deaths and even plant deaths, greatly harming the next crop. In some regions, such as southern Minas Gerais, there is still Fusarium infections in fruits, impairing their development and the quality of their juice.

Several reasons may favor these late infections, including: reduction of the efficiency of Triazoles and Strobirulins; reduction in the application of copper based products; non-specific control and prevention products and doses; use of the same active ingredient in various applications during the production cycle; increasing inoculum pressure; and inadequate nutrition.

How does Fulland technology enhance coffee fungicide performance?

To aid in the management of the remaining (late) diseases, Satis developed the Fulland product, resulting from a highly complex systemic, acro and basepetal chemical complexation process. Due to its molecular chemical structure, this solution has a great interaction with fungicide molecules, significantly improving the performance of treatments, reducing or even avoiding losses caused by these diseases, and is therefore very important in the pathogen resistance management program.

What research is conducted by Satis?

The Satis Research and Development Department develops several scientific works in the producing regions, together with some institutions, such as Procafé, Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), and Santinato & Santinato Consultoria, among others, to adjust the treatments according to the particularities of each region of Brazil, and subsequently bring knowledge to the producers.

Another important detail that the farmer should be aware of is preparing the crop for the next crop. For a perfect flowering to occur, plants must be prepared before the rest period, especially with respect to the elements Phosphorus (P) and Boron (B). These elements need to be stored in the specific organs of the plants so that when the new cycle begins (flowering) the plants can express their maximum productive potential, promoting perfect flowering and excellent fruit picking.

What other technologies and solutions does Satis offer?

For this management, Satis offers Sturdy products, which are highly soluble, liquid and easily applied P ion enriched biostimulant, and Humicbor,  a highly soluble source of the Boron element which, due to its complexation process, provides rapid absorption, storage and redistribution by all points of consumption of the plant. The application of these products can be done by spraying, fertilization or directly via the soil (“Drench”). This nutritional preparation of the crop before the reproductive phase is extremely important for the success of the new production cycle.

The Mathury product acts on the physiological processes linked to the ripening of the coffee fruits, allowing the producer a better harvest schedule, promoting a higher volume of cherry coffee and a smaller volume of ground coffee. Satis Company has other very important technologies for coffee farming, especially Vitan, which provides special physiological conditions for plants to express their maximum productive potential.

What is Satis's projection for Brazil this year?

Each year, new challenges arise and Satis always plans and organizes its actions, prospecting opportunities and seeking to best meet the needs of the agricultural market.
