How will biostimulants fit the global tendency of producing more with less resources?

We spoke with Carlos Repiso, Biostimulant R&D Coordinator at Tradecorp, about Biostimulation 360, abiotic stress and the scientific research developed by Tradecorp in collaboration with international universities to gain a better understanding about biostimulant’s mode of action.

Question- There is no doubt that the biostimulation market is growing and more companies than ever are introducing new and innovative biostimulants to the market. What does Tradecorp’s new concept, Biostimulation 360, contribute to the market?

Answer- Biostimulation is an interesting and complex field. Succeeding with the product selection, timing and dosage for each crop is a precision science, which requires a consistent background to make the right decision. The campaign is part of Tradecorp’s commitment to the knowledge dissemination related to these products, through explanatory documents and informative talks. Biostimulation 360 gathers the expertise of years of research and places it at the service of the farmer so that each drop or gram of biostimulant brings a benefit for crops and profit, as a result.

Q.- According to figures released by Markets and Markets, it is estimated that the biostimulation market will reach $ 2.6 billion in 2019 and that this figure will increase to $ 4.9 billion by 2025. This segment’s growth expectation is remarkable, but is it a fad or has biostimulation come to stay?
A.- I would daresay that biostimulation began as the natural impulse to try something new and innovative, similar to all new things. However, given its complexity and large number of products on the market, which vary in nature and quality, biostimulation has brought as much success as mistrust. Nevertheless, the growing need for solutions enabling more sustainable agriculture, the spirit of the market to produce “more with less” and the increasingly unfavorable weather conditions will undoubtedly boost the demand for biostimulants. With campaigns such as Biostimulation 360, we expect to raise confidence in the benefits of biostimulation in the sector.

Q.- When talking about abiotic stress, we include a wide range of phenomena that affects crops, from cold weather to salinity. Could one expect similar results with different types of biostimulants, or, could we say that every type of abiotic stress requires a unique biostimulant?

A.- There is a wide range of biostimulants. Even within a category, they vary in form, concentration and quality. Likewise, each crop responds to stress and biostimulants differently. Without a doubt, we should ideally study each individual condition, so that our technical team can provide precise solutions to each farmer’s specific problems. However, there are a number of general recommendations, such as the preventive use of Phylgreen to prepare plants before unfavorable events, or to increase plant vigour against future stress as soon as possible through their roots stimulation.

Q.- Recently, Tradecorp has launched a new concept to the market: Primactive. What is Primactive? What are the farmer’s benefits?

A.- Primactive is the sum of the best raw material available (our harvest of Ascophyllum nodosum) along with an extraction process perfected to give its best. Primactive is the most important effect that the Phylgreen range offers. It involves a series of physiological and metabolic alterations that prepare the plant against potential adverse conditions, allowing the crop to tolerate future abiotic stress conditions with greater success. Phylgreen is a product that cannot be understood without its Primactive effect. Likewise, effective stress prevention cannot be understood without Phylgreen and the Primactive effect.

2nd Biopesticides and Novel Fertilizers International Summit (BioEx 2019) is about to be held on 22nd - 23rd in Hangzhou, China. You can meet most of the Chinese and Asian leading biopesticide, biostimulant and novel fertilizer distributors, and also meet with the leading maunufacturers such as Tradecorp, Biolchim, Valagro.
