The vote on the endocrine disruptors was the last on Thursday's plenary agenda and the last of the current legislative term.

On April 18, the European Parliament agreed on a landmark resolution on endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) by a large cross-party majority, in its final plenary session before the EU elections.

The EU Parliament has called on the European Commission to “swiftly take all necessary action to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment against EDCs,” after the Commission’s proposed framework on EDCs was criticized for falling short of concrete action.

The resolution stated that there is “no valid reason to postpone effective regulation” and called on the Commission to develop a concrete action plan and legislative proposals to remove endocrine disruptors from cosmetics, toys, and food packaging by June 2020.
Giulia Carlini, staff attorney at the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), released the following statement:

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals pose serious risks to our health, as they are linked to diseases such as diabetes and infertility and are present in many products that we interact with daily. It’s high time for the EU to take concrete action to protect people from these toxic chemicals, and today’s resolution was an important step in that direction. We support the European Parliament’s call on the EU Commission to make concrete legislative proposals to protect our health and environment from EDCs by mid-2020, and we look forward to providing input to the Commission to develop a robust framework on eliminating exposure to EDCs.
