Corteva Agriscience™, the Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, reaffirmed its commitment to working on sustainable agriculture development goals in China at this year’s China Development Forum (CDF). Speaking at a major panel session with key industry leaders, CEO James Collins highlighted the company’s vision for the future of agriculture in China and across the globe, as well as his advocacy for win-win collaboration over the entire food production value chain and beyond.

This year’s CDF - themed Opening-up for Win-Win Corporation - featured discussions and panels largely focused on furthering collaborations and partnerships as China continues to open up to foreign investment. The forum is held on the weekend immediately following the conclusion of the Two Sessions – the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference – and is of paramount importance, with the top leadership each year outlining China’s development agenda to international delegates.

During the panel session themed Business Revolution in the Digital Era, Mr. Collins echoed the event’s theme and expressed the company’s intention to extend its footprint in China and to bring value in shaping a new agriculture sector, benefiting farmers and enabling the rural economy with sustained growth. He then outlined areas where Corteva Agriscience can build beneficial partnerships with its stakeholders in China:

Collaborating on the joint development of technologies, talents and skillsets to progress the modernization and upgrading of the agriculture sector in China
Improving the profitability of farming enterprises for the healthy development of the Chinese economy
Ensuring sustainable growth for agriculture in China’s rural areas
Contributing to the stable and healthy U.S.-China trade relationship

In his speech, Mr. Collins also commended China’s efforts to promote innovation, stating, “China’s move will also usher in a new era of innovation and competition that will be felt for years to come. And that has very positive implications for your businesses, communities and institutions, to be sure.”

He then looked to the collaborative future between China and Corteva Agriscience, “We look forward to continuing our collaborative partnership with this great nation and with all of you as, together, we create a world of greater food security, enhanced nutrition, stronger economic harmony and lasting cross-cultural goodwill.”

The agriculture sector in China is in the midst of a transition from a productivity-driven model to more-balanced growth that aims for a better yield and less environment impact. As China shows determination to progress the modernization of agriculture, it is pushing hard to drive innovations in digital and smart agricultural technologies. Corteva Agriscience™ strives to be the partner of choice for this mission, thanks to its continuous investment in research and development and its mantra that innovation is a responsibility, not a choice.
