Biocontrol manufacturer and supplier, Bioline Agrosciences, is implementing a range of new shipping boxes designed to minimise waste and limit the environmental impacts of its global activities.

Bioline Agrosciences is a global player in the biocontrol market, specialised in Macro-organism biocontrol (beneficial insects for crop protection). Their products are produced in several sites across Europe and North America and are shipped to markets worldwide. Maintaining top quality when shipping this type of product has traditionally required substantial outer packaging to maintain optimum conditions. However, Bioline Agrosciences has invested in extensive trials of new shipping boxes designed to reduce the environmental impact of their shipping waste.

Bioline’s new packaging will significantly reduce the volume of non-recyclable wasteby replacing polystyrene boxes with reusable foil-liners inside recyclable cardboard boxes. Additional changes to the packaging for temperature-controlled shipments will also reduce waste by removing the need for 20,000 icepacks, 20,000 envelopes and 15,000 metres of sticky tape per year.

Alexandre Versigny, Head of Operations at Bioline, has said, “We are really excited to go-live with these changes. We are proud of our commitment to continuous improvements and one area we have been particularly focused on is packaging efficiency and environmental sustainability. Our core business is offering environmentally sustainable products to the Agricultural industry, but we want to make sure that all aspects of our business are as sustainable as the products we offer. These changes are a big and exciting step on that journey”.

Tom Kiely, Bioline’s Distribution Manager, commented, “We’ve done a lot of trials and we are really confident that these changes give a more suitable and constant temperature during shipment. This means a reduction in waste and handling whilst improving shipping quality – a Win-Win for our customers and the environment!”

Bioline Agrosciences has already implemented these changes at several of its production sites and they are planning to continue the roll-out worldwide during 2019.
