A total of 539,945 tons of formulated agrochemicals were sold in Brazil in 2017, according to semi-annual reports sent by companies to Ibama, the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources. Brazil also registered the sale of 208,535 tons of so-called "technical products".

Of the total of formulated products marketed, according to the Ibama report, no less than 438,181 tons come from domestic production. Another 128,064 tons were imported, and Brazil sold only 8,837 tons abroad.

Among the technical products, 71,669 tons were produced in Brazil, while 199,375 tons were purchased from foreign markets. Still, 8,503 tons of agrochemicals manufactured in the country were exported, according to the Institute, which is linked to the Ministry of the Environment.

Last year, 126 companies that registered products as "Chemicals and Biochemicals" sent semi-annual reports of agrochemicals to Ibama. A total of 6,356 reports were received, including 2,465 about technical products and 3,891 regarding formulations. There was an increase in the number of reports received in 2017, compared to 2016, because of new registrations granted. It is estimated that in 2017, 259 newly formulated products were registered, according to data extracted from the Ibama Agrochemicals System.

The formulated product reports cover some 329 active ingredients. Of this total, 88 will have commercial values corresponding to trademarks whose active ingredients have at least three companies that have registrations. The 88 active ingredients corresponded to a total sale of 487,500 tons in the domestic market, representing 90% of the total value of sales of active ingredients in 2017, corresponding to 539,944.95 tons.
