Certis Europe is to establish a new research centre for the development of Integrated Pest Management in protected vegetables in Almeria, Spain.

Certis Europe BV has signed a collaboration agreement with the Tecnova Experimental Centre to establish the new Certis Research Excellence Centre (CREC) for the development of Integrated Pest Management on protected vegetables in Almería, Spain.

The Tecnova Foundation was established in 2001 and the mission of its Technological Centre, incorporating the Experimental Centre, is to provide added value to food production, promoting innovation and technological development in the agricultural sector, including the ancillary industry.

Certis is a leading company in the development and commercialisation of a wide range of biorationals registered as plant protection products to control pests and diseases. Biorational products form the basis of its Integrated Pest Management programmes, allowing Certis to establish protocols adapted to each crop. The company is already successfully expanding its ‘Growing for the future’ project, providing support to farmers and cooperatives to ensure production complies with the demands of the supermarket chains for vegetables that are residue-free or at worst have a maximum of three active substances at residue levels below 30% of the harmonised European Maximum Residue Level (MRL). These Certis IPM programmes also include special nutrition, with a range of innovative nutritional products, to obtain healthy crops and profitable production.

With the signing of the new agreement, Certis Europe B.V. will have at its disposal in Almería the best facilities to continue with its development of full IPM programmes that include biorationals, conventional specialities and an innovative range of special nutrition products, and to continue with its research and the development of solutions for excellence in the management of protected vegetables. With support from Certis the new facilities, located in the centre of production for trade and export of vegetables, will enhance collaboration with grower cooperatives, and allow development of new protocols to support sustainable agriculture and food security.
