In an exclusive interview with AgroPages, UPL revealed its plans of working on launching a new technology to improve efficiency to combat Asian Rust. The Indian company is specialized in multi-site fungicides and is present in 28 countries, including Brazil, and is responsible for Unizeb Gold (mancozeb) and Triziman (azoxystrobin + cyproconazole + mancozeb) products that are already available in the market.

The newest UPL product Trídium is a mixture of fungicides composed by mancozeb, tebuconazole, and azoxystrobin. According to Rogério Rangel, marketing director of the company, the mixture of these three components is ideal for an application from the beginning, not just for combat, but also for the preservation of the disease. “It is adapted for regions that have a huge incidence or risk of rust, to be used from the beginning and to build protection against rust, maintaining the health of the soybean leaves and keeping up production,” said Rangel.

One of the major obstacles to combat the disease, according to Rangel, is the resistance created by fungicides. On the other hand, Tridium will act on seven different points of the fungi, making it harder to correct the problem and potentiating the effects of its components. “The resistance is broken when several assets act in different ways on the fungus. So, you have mancozeb, a fungicide that acts in five stages, the five points of the fungi and two more specific systemic… it is practically impossible for it to occur,” explained the director.

Besides the fungicides, UPL has worked and invested in markets not too exploited before, such as the market of whitefly and seed treatment. The product, which is exclusive for soybeans, will be launched this year. Brazilian farmers will be able to get access to it in the next season of the oilseeds.
