MANA introduced two new herbicides

MANA Crop Protection has introduced Ironclad nicosulfuron plus rimsulfuron herbicide and Adapt nicosulfuron herbicide for control of many tough broadleaf and grass weeds in corn.

"When Ironclad is used in a post-emergence early season application to actively growing grasses and broadleaf weeds in corn, the result is excellent selective weed control and good residual activity against many of those weeds," said Dave Downing, senior marketing manager for MANA herbicides. "Ironclad is a very flexible herbicide, with low rates that can be applied by ground or air in a wide application window. It is a good choice for either conventional corn or herbicide-tolerant corn, and will take out some resistant biotypes."

Weeds controlled by Ironclad include barnyardgrass, volunteer cereals, woolly cupgrass, foxtails, Johnsongrass, wirestem muhly*, panicum, field sandbur*, shattercane, wild oats, burcucumber, jimsonweeds, morningglory, wild mustard, and some pigweeds. Ironclad is compatible with several tank mix partners for enhanced control of kochia, lambsquarters, mallow, nightshade, ragweed, velvetleaf and waterhemp. (*Cultivation or re-treatment may be required for complete control.)

"Ironclad is a best-in-class, easy-to-use water soluble granular formulation of the same actives as those found in Steadfast. Ironclad is a value alternative that growers will want to insist on trying this year," said Downing.

Adapt, with the same active as Accent®, also may be applied by ground or air. Adapt offers the added flexibility of being labeled for seed corn, popcorn and some sweet corn hybrids as well as field corn. Aerial applications of Ironclad and Adapt are not permitted in California or New York state.

"Ironclad and Adapt are suitable for use after reduced rates of pre-emergence herbicides," said Downing. "In recent years corn growers have once again seen the importance of a complete pre-emergence and post-emergence weed management program.

"Ironclad and Adapt bring to 14 the number of high-performing, tested and proven MANA herbicides for dependable chemistry in field corn. With the uncertainties in crop markets this year, growers dont need to spend more than they should, or take any chances, keeping weeds out of their corn."
