Syngenta in Ukraine implementing a project to combat degradation of agricultural landsqrcode

Syngenta in the framework of The Good Growth Plan (the Plan successful growth) until 2020, is implementing a project to combat degradation of agricultural lands on the basis of a farm “Shirokostup” (Kiev region).
 
“One of our commitments is aimed at solving no less urgent problems of agricultural production is to save as many as possible of farmland from degradation,” – the company said in a statement.
 
The project in Ukraine is designed for 5 years, the company has started its implementation from 2015 on 280 hectares of the farm “Shirokostup” in Kagarlyk district of Kyiv region. Land Bank of agricultural companies – about 3.5 thousand hectares.
 
“We have attracted scientists specialized institutes to explore the soil on the farm and give advice on measures for their restoration. This research is financed by the company Syngenta, and the agriculture for its part is obliged to follow these recommendations for their own means”, – noted in the company. Next is the monitoring of changes in the condition of the soil determines how much is saved humus and reduced erosion.
 
In the framework of the program “successful growth” in Ukraine, Syngenta has committed by 2020 to increase the efficiency of cultivation of such crops as corn (8%) and sunflower (15%) without increasing acreage, water use and other costs.
 
The company has selected households from three regions – Vinnytsia, Kyiv and Cherkasy, who will participate in the fulfilment of this obligation.
 
“Our experts have developed for each enterprise, the so-called Protocol, which will increase the yield of selected crops. In 2016, was reached increase the efficiency of cultivation the average of the experimental farms: corn – on 5,5%, sunflower – by 6.7%”, –Syngenta stated in the message.
 
In Ukraine, Syngenta also trains workers farms the rules of safe production. Specialists of the company in 2016, provided hands-on training and workshops for almost 700 farmers, about the safety precautions and rules when working with plant protection products.
 
Syngenta in the world has six global commitment under The Good Growth Plan by 2020, including increase the yield of major crops in the world by 20% without increasing acreage, water or inputs; increase of fertility of 10 million hectares of farmland, which are on the brink of degradation; enhancement of biodiversity on 5 million hectares; the empowerment of smallholder farmers (to reach 20 million smallholder farmers and help them increase the productivity of their farms by 50%); organization of training on labor protection for 20 million farmers, particularly in developing countries; the introduction of fair working conditions at all levels of the supply chain.
