Rotam offers fungicide Ykatu® to combat crop disease in Argentina

January 2017 was undoubtedly a period of extreme weather conditions in Argentina, with large areas of the national agricultural area affected by heavy rains, flooding and high temperatures. To the south of Buenos Aires and La Pampa provinces there was a strong drought and the area was hit by high temperatures. But February seems to present a friendlier scenario, with nearly normal rainfall and temperatures closer to the comfort zone of crops, but also the diseases that affect them.
Often, the immediate events make one forget where the crops come from. In the case of soybean, the reality indicates that this year seeds of dubious quality were planted, both germinating power and sanitary status. In addition to this, infested stubble after two years of heavy rain generated an ideal environment for the emergence of End of Cycle Diseases (EFC), mainly the Frog Eye Spot.
The situation is reflected in the areas that received excessive water, as well as in areas recovering from droughts which received rain in the last few weeks. There, the recovery of the state of the crop is fundamental to achieving a Foliar Area Index that is as high as possible, so allowing foliar diseases to thrive is to undermine the possible recovery of crops.
While the numbers in the current season have improved, it is still necessary to obtain high yields of soybeans to maintain sound economic returns. With this scenario, the control of EFCs such as Rana's Spot (MOR) and Asian Soybean Rust (RAS) - in areas that may have influence - is crucial to avoid losing valuable kilograms along the way.
Therefore, it is necessary to have tools of high economic and productive efficiency that combine different modes of action to achieve high strength in the treatments and minimize the risks of resistance.
