Syngenta has announced the two hybrids of corn, namely SYN 840 and SYN 860 with Viptera 3 in Uruguay, which adapts to early planting as well as late planting, intermediary cycle and health. According to the manufacturer, SYN 840 delivers “high yield per plant,” while SYN 860 enhances “weight and quality of grains.”

The Viptera 3 is a last-generation biotechnological solution that enables wider control of major caterpillars in corn. It fights against insects such as the dark-sword-grass, the lesser cornstalk borer, the fall armyworm and Helicoverpa armigera, which threaten soybeans and corn crops.

"Those are big potential hybrids, which gain top positions in the official evaluation of the National Institute of Seeds. They are ideal for early planting and characterized by their high yields. Besides, these produce red grains,” José Luis Inciarte, technical commercial coordinator of Syngenta, said.

Inciarte said that the hybrids available in the market were “excellent,” and with adequate fertilization and planting at the best time, it was possible to achieve higher yields. “The inclusion of the Viptera 3 protects corn against insect attacks to achieve higher yields,” he concluded.
