Valent to launch two new insecticides

Valent Canada, makers of growth regulators, herbicides and pesticides, are launching two new insecticides for the 2010 grow season that promise to help potato, fruit and turf growers fight tough pests like Colorado potato beetle, aphids, and leafhopper, as well as many others.

The products, Arena 50 WDG Insecticide and Clutch 50 WDG Insecticide, both contain the active ingredient clothianidin and are third-generation neonicotinoids that boast low water solubility and ensure consistent, quick uptake by plants, as well as providing long-lasting residual control across a variety of soil types. The product’s long-lasting residual activity helps to protect crops and turf longer and more effectively than ever before.

Arena 50 WDG Insecticide is designed to help turf professionals keep sod, golf courses and residential lawns free of surface-feeding insects and is registered to control such pesky lawn critters as white grub, Japanese bettle, hairy chinch bug, bluegrass billbug, European chafer, European crane fly (also known as leather jacket), and annual bluegrass weevil. It can be applied throughout May to September to ensure long-lasting and thorough coverage.

Clutch 50 WDG Insecticide keeps crops like potatoes, apples, pears, and grapes free of hard-to-get-rid-of pests like aphids, Colorado potato beetle, leafhopper, plum curculio, leafminer, pear psylla, grape phylloxera, mealy bug, and thrips. It is applied to fruit trees post-bloom, or applied in-season for grapes, and uses local translaminar and systemic movement after foliar spray. In trials, translaminar movement resulted within 30 minutes of Clutch 50 WDG application.
