The new Agriculture minister in Brazil, Blairo Maggi, promised to reduce bureaucracy and speed up the registration of phytosanitary agrochemicals in the country. The guarantee was done in a video message sent to the Fiber Club (an event promoted by FMC in the city of Recife, Pernambuco), which brings together the cotton production chain.

“This is a serious problem. The Brazilian farmer cannot pay for the state inefficiency. We should study the safety of a product, but also with celerity,” affirmed Maggi. He added: “The persistency of the minister should be worth.”

The slowness at the evaluation of agrochemicals is one of the major complains in the rural sector. The celerity of the agencies, such as Anvisa and Ibama, have been one of the constant complaints and was also prioritized by the previous minister Kátia Abreu.

Minister Blairo Maggi affirmed also that he intends to bring more efficiency to the Agriculture Ministry: “I don’t disregard the difficulties of this year to maintain the farm activities because we had a frustrated crop. So I, as a minister, have to concern this and build bridges with the industry”.
