China pesticide brand overview: 2015 Chinese Crop Protection Market's Top Pesticide Brands announced

The results of the 2015 Chinese Crop Protection Market's Top Brand Sales were recently announced. Typical selections for the listing are herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and plant growth regulators. This year, biopesticide brands were added, as well as the title of “Best blockbuster brand,” revealing the brand structure of the Chinese pesticide industry.

With the continued development of the international organic farm product market and the increased insect resistance to chemical pesticides, the global demand for safe and environmentally friendly biopesticides rises daily. Biopesticides have become the focus of global agrochemical development. There are 12 brands at the top of this year's brand sales listing, including the plant immunoprotein biopesticide Atailing.

The top brand sales list reveals a higher proportion of environmentally friendly formulations, such as SC, WDG, and EW, which indicates the current trend of development in the Chinese pesticide industry as well as the industry players’ increased sense of responsibility for the environment and safety. Also, the list shows the rapid development of advanced formulation technology among Chinese companies, alongside the strong global presence of pesticide technical production plants. The whole industry is looking forward to a more diversified business connection and cooperation.

Kesheng’s Shenyue is China’s first registered product containing environmentally friendly pymetrozine SC to be granted a national invention patent. Shenyue is used to control the Homoptera, with sucking mouthparts, pest. The product is rain-flush resistant and has a long-lasting effect. One application can rid the crop of plant hoppers for 20–30 days. Pymetrozine is highly selective, with no direct-contact toxicity for non-targeted organisms and natural enemies. Veyong’s Lanrui (abamectin) was released to market in 2007, followed by a technical upgrade in 2008, which enabled the successful application of abamectin to field crops. By virtue of being highly efficient with stable control, the product has dominated the paddy rice market. At present, the application of Lanrui has been extended to include the control of the paddy golden-apple snail, the sugarcane moth borer, and the fruit tree red spider. The nationwide use of the product has reduced the use of organophosphorus pesticide by 300,000 tons, which contributes to pollution control.

Jingbo’s Baoer (emamectin benzoate) is manufactured using its own technical material, with antiphotolysis factors and a high osmotic agent added, allowing for stable and longer lasting effects. It is very effective against the brassicaceous vegetable pest Plutella xylostella and the asparagus caterpillar. Baoer has been sold widely across the whole country for more than a decade, having achieved sales turnover of 700 million yuan.

Sinochem’s innovative product 9080 (SYP9080) is the world’s fourth patented amide insecticide after flubendiamide, DuPont’s chlorantraniliprole, and cyantraniliprole. It is China’s first commercialized amide insecticide with proprietary intellectual property rights. The product is of low-toxicity; covers a broad spectrum; and has high penetrability, good systemicity, and a long-lasting effect, with strong activity against the Lepidoptera pest.
