Syngenta introduce two sunflower varieties for the Spanish market in Valladolid this week. The two varieties, Sy Kiara and Sumiko HTS, are adapted for the Northern region of the European country.

According to the company, the products incorporate the latest genetic technology of hybrids of this crop and are stable under different conditions. Sy Kiara, according to Syngenta, is indicated for short cycle sunflowers and Sumilo HTS ideal for mid-cycle, besides being resistant to sulfonylureas.

At the launch event, the Sunflower Forum, which gathered 450 farmers, Dominique Marque, director of Extensive Crops at Syngenta, affirmed that the future of sunflower in Europe will not depend so much on the fuel market, but more on human food. “Mostly because the sunflower oil is among the healthiest profiles of food,” said Marquet.
