The three government agencies that control the registration of agrochemicals in Brazil reached an agreement to collaborate to speed up the analysis and procedures of product release. The slow evaluation of new products for crop protection – with procedures that take between five to eight years – is one of the top obstacles pointed out by the productive sector.

The announcement was made by the Agriculture Defense secretary at the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, Luís Rangel, during a meeting at the Thematic Chamber of Agricultural Inputs held this Monday (02.22). According to him, the agreement seeks a harmony at the procedures of agrochemical analysis, establishing a “common agenda” with the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the Brazilian Institute of Natural Environmental and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama).

The agreement, which will be signed in March, provides for a novalty: the supply of technical labor for the evaluation of agrochemicals by the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development. “This will represent a small value within the budget, but will bring big results. It is a model of support with students that will help to take our decisions,” explained Rangel.
